The Northwest Women in Business Network was formed in 2003. The founders were local women business owners in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, who determined there was a need for a different way to network. They wanted something that would bring like-minded business women together and really make a difference in their marketing efforts.
After contacting a few women business affiliates and proposing a networking group start up, the new group began meeting every two weeks at a local diner for lunch. Lunch hour meetings work to combine networking with business hours, because many of us have families and need to be with them after work.
Within four months the group had grown to thirty women. So we had to find a larger facility to fit us comfortably – especially after adding the commercials and display table opportunities.
Now, our luncheons attract over seventy women who regularly attend our monthly meetings. The first fifteen minutes are dedicated to mingling and networking and we have a several opportunities during lunch for more networking, commercials and mentoring. The entire hour is devoted to getting to know our fellow members and building lasting relationships to further grow each member’s business.
The reason for a women-based networking membership is to promote a sense of commonality already present. We are like-minded individuals with similar daily obligations, similar hurdles, and situations you may be facing. Our organization creates an environment where the common ground is already established.
So, let’s get down to business: With the many hats today’s women wear, we need a place where we can come and not be marginalized into an ineffective group. Instead, Women In Business is a place to come with an agenda – to provide mutual marketing with a focused audience; returning to work in a timely manner. Members benefit from this Intentional Marketing that leaves them with time to maintain the other areas of their lives – family, faith, friends and work.
In our communities there are many types of networking organizations to join. We believe our system is a better way to create lasting business relationships and a sense of trust with business network associates, without taking us away from our other obligations in life.
